Show #3 Audio Issues, slight delay

For the supershow #3, I checked all my levels and set out to record an even better show, with a more complete website, professional liners and seques… all rolled together.

And then I converted it and listened to it. WOW - can we say we peaked the meters a little bit on this one? I guess that the lights on the board - all within range - didn’t translate as well to Audio Hijack Pro. WHAT KILLS me is that none of the indicators told me I was driving the mic too hard, and I’m too new to know better.

So, I will feverishly continue to try to fix my mistake for this week. Please know the show is on the way, even if the sound isn’t what I wanted.

Help the Security Catalyst with a new logo

I think the definition below effectively describes my desire to help influence and positively impact the field of information security; I struggle with an effective way to explain this visually.

Can you help?

I’m looking for some ideas - what comes to mind when you read or hear the words “Security Catalyst?”

At the moment, when I stop long enough to think, the image of “fire” comes to mind. What do you think?

Send me ideas and suggestions, please, to

Security Catalyst Podcast - Show #2

We made it to our second show! Thanks to everyone that provided me feedback during the week, on both the audio and security fronts.

This show has been removed. Please check out a more current version.

I made some changes for this weeks show - I got a Mackie mixer to use - and as expected, it really made a difference in my ability to control the music live, as well as the levels and such (you’ll notice a bit of noise near the end of the show when the furnace kicked on).

I also positioned the mic differently and practiced a bit more with the pop filter this week to try to give my audio a cleaner sound. I have more improvements planned for the coming shows, as well. I also picked up a M-Audio Microtrack flash recorder this weekend and will be trying that out, as well.

As always, send feedback to securitycatalyst@gmail.com or leave comments here.

Security Catalyst, Show #1 - October 15 2005

Hey friends,

The first show is out of the way. I feel like now that I have broken through the initial barrier, I’ll start to get the hang of putting out a weekly program!

This show is no longer available. Please check out a more recent edition.

As I sat here this evening editing the initial file, I realized why I want to develop a system that will let me run through everything in one shot. I also noticed that even using a good microphone and pop filter, I have some work to do on mic placement to avoid some of the explosions….

You’ll notice the lack of well produced intros, outros and bumpers during this episode. Now that I’m getting the hang of the production, I’ll start working on improving the entertainment side of this show.

Take a listen and SEND ME YOUR FEEDBACK! I’d like to know how I can make this show more valuable for you. I’ve already been asked to start including explanations of common security items, as well as ways we can all make them a bit more clear - so look for that to start to happen next week.

Have a story, an idea, a request or just some constructive criticism? Send it to me at securitycatalyst@gmail.com.

Be safe out there!
