Guidelines for Pitching and Working with Michael Santarcangelo and the Security Catalyst Team

Since the publication of my book Into the Breach, the demands on my time have increased. In order to make effective use of both of our time, I created these guidelines to explain how to best capture my attention, get on my calendar and explore how the Security Catalyst Team can enhance and accelerate your efforts.
To teach me about your product or solution
As you can imagine, I get a fair amount of email every day – and I do appreciate it. While I may not be able to respond to every pitch I get, I do try to scan them. Organizations depend on innovative and effective solutions to help them with the sometimes-daunting task of protecting information and managing their risk. As a catalyst, I am always interested in learning about advances in technology and other solutions that make a difference and deliver results.
To increase your chances of getting my attention and time in my schedule, tell me how your solution addresses these two concepts from Into the Breach:
- Makes it easier for people to do their jobs and protect information
- Informs the process of managing people, information and risk
I give preference to solutions focused on addressing the challenges faced by the clients I work with and advise. I have limited time for telephone pitches, but if you catch my attention, we can schedule some time. Or you can follow the guidelines below to ensure you can get guidance on how to improve and position your message.
Guidelines to set time to work together
1. Read my book Into the Breach (~100 pages, 3 hours) and determine if my ideas and approach fit with your solution. I want to know how your approach is part of the solution, and not part of the problem. I can send you a copy of an e-book to help you get started.
2. Help me understand what you want to talk about. For example,
- You want to learn how to connect your solution with the people who need it most
- You want to work together on a project to write, podcast or otherwise promote the solution
- You want to explore if I am available to serve as spokesperson or otherwise raise your visibility with a keynote or seminar
- You are interested in presenting to the Security Salon members
- You want to be considered for the Solution Showcase
These are just some of the things I’ve helped people with. As long as it is within the scope of what I am passionate about, I’m game to help you with anything. In fact, I love pushing the envelope and trying new things. If my brand of passion, optimism and 40′ RV play into something that benefits you – I would love to hear it.

Again, these are just guidelines that I look to forward to making our relationship work efficiently and sticking to a timeline so that I can help as many people as possible. I will certainly consider deviating from these guidelines for you to make working together a mutual success, and if that requires making changes to the set guidelines, so be it.
